This year’s Loan Exhibit and Lecture Program, “Visiting the Main Line – Railroad Ties,” will appeal to both antiquers and railroad buffs. With the help of several private collectors and access to historic archives, the Show Committee has organized a fascinating exhibit of railroad antiques and memorabilia, illustrating how the Pennsylvania Railroad -- and its predecessors and successors -- shaped culture, life and commerce in the suburban Philadelphia towns that grew up along the railroad’s “Main Line” – and gave the region its name.
The Lecture Program will be held on Saturday, November 20: At 11:00 a.m. collector/historian/artist Ted Xaras will give a presentation on “Riding the Rails” – an overview of the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1870 -1940. At 3:00 p.m. there will be “Roundtable Storytelling” by well-known railroaders and historians, moderated by Frank G. Tatnall. On Sunday, November 21 there are Booth Talks by Dealers throughout the day on “Know Your Antiques.” All programs are complimentary with Show admission.
Show Chair Nicholas Vandekar reports that the 2010 Main Line Antiques Show is “right on track” to be the best one yet. “Dealers are enthusiastic and the Show is filled,“ he says. “There will be a great variety of marvelous wares for purchase – from porcelains, pewter and silver to furniture, textiles and artworks, as well as jewelry, miniatures, and beautiful decorative arts.”
“Of course we are also hoping that some of the dealers will bring objects relating to our ‘railroad’ theme,” says Roberta Hollingshead, Vice-Chair of the Show.
Dealers on board include Carol Ann Kooperman, Chimney Corner Antiques, Dixon-Hall Fine Art, Earle D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge, Eve Stone Antiques, Federalist Antiques, Gallery 51, Hanes & Ruskin, Hollie Powers Holt Fine Art, Joan Dessureau, Johanna Antiques, Lorraine Wambold Estate Jewelry, Malchione Sporting Antiques, Margaret Johnson Sutor Antiques, Marvin Baer, Mimi’s Antiques, Mullen Antiques & Upholstery, Perry-Joyce Fine Arts, Port ‘N Starboard Gallery, Priscilla Boyd Angelos, Raccoon Creek Antiques, Red Sleigh Antiques, R.M.Worth Antiques, Roberta Hollingshead, Roger D. Serving close to 3,500 residents in the Chester-Delaware county suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, Surrey Services has been a valuable community resource for local seniors for nearly 30 years and is a respected model for aging in place.
