It can truly be said that no two pieces of antique furniture are exactly alike. A great example can be seen in the video above, in which antiques dealer Ruth Van Tassel of Van Tassel-Baumann American Antiques shows and discusses the attributes of an 18th century Chippendale slant-front desk. The desk was constructed with unique details such as multiple secret compartments, and later embellished with the inlaid initials of one of its many owners. One of the secret compartments even tells us a bit about the maker’s sense of humor! The desk’s next owner will have acquired a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Meet Ruth Van Tassel at the Van Tassel-Baumann booth at The Main Line Antiques Show 2016, for more fine Early American antique furniture (as well as beautiful antique samplers and other needlework.)
